|  | | Torquay |  | The Great Ocean Road journey begins at Torquay, which is just past Geelong. This is a popular surfing and summer resort with safe swimming beaches and is the capital of Australia's booming surf industry.
Find big retail surfing names like Rip Curl and Quick Silver based at Surfworld Plaza on the surf coast highway, a great place if your looking for surfboards, wetsuits, surf wear or equipment. Also within the complex is the excellent Surfworld Australia Surfing Museum, that's open daily. You can hire surfing gear and book surfing lessons with the Surfworld Surf School.
Located a couple of km's up the Road southwest is Bells Beach, our world famous surfing coast where the Bells Surfing Classic is held annually at Easter. Take the steep steps along the cliff face down to the beach where you can walk along the beach. Bells beach is not for novice surfers.
